The Mizard of Miz (Part 4 of 6)

Early the next morning, Dina, Jack and the Ton-Man were making fairly good time as they made their way down the Yellow Fit Road.

“I said to get downwind from me, you smelly sh*tcrow!” yelled the Ton-Man, shoving Jack back.

“Well, you don’t have to be so mean, you mean meanie,” exclaimed Jack. “What is it, Dina?”

“Do you hear crying?” asked Dina.

“Weren’t we supposed to do the ‘Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My’ song?” asked Ton-Man.

“We’ve gone way over budget,” said Jack. “Look, over there. A giant hairy dude crying like a baby.”

“Yeah, I heard he lived around here,” said the Ton-Man, nodding his head. “It’s the Cowardly Liar.”

“Oh hell no!” said Carlos, drying his eyes. “I let you rag on me in that League of Extraordinarily Fat Gentlemen series, but I’m not participating in this travesty. No way. No how.”

“So you say you’re looking for some mojo?” asked Dina.

“What?” asked Carlos, a confused expression on his face. “What the hell are you talking about?”

“Well,” said Ton-Man. “Maybe the Miz can give you some mojo and get your weight-loss journey back on track.”

“What the f*ck are you talking about?” asked Carlos. “Is that you, Dina? I had a fantasy about you in a Dorothy costume one time, but now you’re gone and ruined it forever.”

“I’m sure the Miz could help find your lost mojo,” smiled Jack.

“Look, stinkwad,” barked Carlos, poking the sh*tcrow in the chest with his finger. “I said I’m not a part of this, and I meant it.”

“We’ve just got to cross the Poppy Fields and we’ll be there,” said Jack.

“Poppy fields?” smiled Carlos. “Okay, I’m in.”

We’re off to see the Mizard,
The Marvelous Mizard of Miz.
We’ll find she is a fitness whiz.
Yes, that’s the kind of a whiz she is.
If ever oh ever a Wiz there is,
The Mizard of Miz is the best one there is.
She is, she is, she is, she is, she is.
Because she’s simply the best in the biz.
We’re off to see the Mizard.

The Mizard of Miz (Part 3 of 6)

Dina Gail and Jack the Sh*tcrow were in reasonably good spirits until they found themselves in The Incredibly Creepy Forest.

“There’s something about this place that stinks worse than you do, Jack,” said Dina apprehensively.

“Oh, there’s nothing to worry about until it gets dark,” smiled Jack. “That’s when the killer vampire bats come out.”

“It’s already dark, dumbass!” shouted Dina.

“DON’T YELL!” screamed Jack. “THAT’S HOW THEY FIND YOU.”

Suddenly, the night air was filled with the beating of leathery wings. Hundreds of killer vampire bats circled above the travelers.

“DON’T WORRY!” yelled Jack. THEY WON’T BITE US. THEY DON’T LIKE THE TASTE OF POO!”

“I’m not full of crap like you, Sh*t-for-brains,” said Dina, swinging her basket of empty burger wrappers and juice boxes to fend off the rabid bats.

Then, a blinding white light flooded the forest. The intense flash spooked the hoard of bats and sent them scurrying away.

As Dina, Rikko and Jack stood in the road, trembling, a short, clanking figure slowly moved toward them.

“Five bucks says he’s made of tin,” said Dina.

“Hi,” said the hoodie-clad bodybuilder. “Some people call me the Anti-Jared, but you can just call me the Ton-Man.”

“Ton-Man?” asked Jack.

“Yeah, short for Tony. Sorry about that light. I accidentally shined my flashlight off my head.”

The Ton-Man pushed back the top of his hoodie to reveal a completely bald head. He noticed Dina and Jack’s uncomfortable looks and proceeded to burst out in song…

When a man's an empty hoodie,
He shouldn’t be uneasy, should he?
And yet I just don’t care.
I wouldn’t be such a screwball.
Wouldn’t look just like a cueball,
If I only had some hair.

I'd be tender, I'd be easy.
Never let it get all greasy.
I’d see a stylist named Pierre.
I wouldn’t pull, dye or dull it.
Wouldn’t wear it in a mullet,
If I only had some hair.

Picture me a balcony,
Below a voice sings well.

(Prince)
Throw down your hair, Rapunzel.

(Ton-Man)
I have long locks… that rocks!

I would be on a true mission,
I’d shampoo and I’d condition,
And live my life with flair.
I wouldn’t take any mo’ flack.
Co-workers wouldn’t call me Kojak,
If I only had some hair.

Miz?” Dina asked Jack.

Miz!” smiled Jack. “The Miz can totally get you some hair, dude.”

“You’re full of sh*t,” said the Ton-Man.

“It’s true,” confirmed Dina. “She’s very powerful.”

“No, I mean he really smells bad.”

“Yeah, just keep him downwind,” said Dina.

The Marvelous Mizard of Miz.

“That was kinda short,” complained Dina.

“Hmmmmmm,” replied Jack. “Well, we’ll go ahead and do Part 4 this afternoon.”

The Mizard of Miz (Part 2 of 6)

Dina was slogging (slow-ass jogging) along the Yellow Fit Road when she was stopped dead by the foul aroma of defecation. Rikko her ferret began gagging and choking.

“Why, hello there!” said a tall scarecrow hanging by the side of the road. “Sorry about the stench. The brainless farmer that owns this field didn’t have any straw when he stuffed me.”

“So you’re full of sh*t?” asked Dina.

“That’s what everybody tells me,” he replied.

“So does that keep the crows away?”

“It keeps everybody away,” he answered. “Hi, I’m Jack the Sh*tcrow.”

“So," said Dina. “Do many folks journey down this Yellow Fit Road?”

“Well,” replied Jack. “A lot of people start off on it, then get discouraged or have setbacks and wander off course.”

“I can’t imagine why,” sneered Dina.

“I try to encourage them,” smiled Jack. “I tell ‘em that it may be long and tortuous and it may be a constant uphill climb, but at least they’ll be doing it for the rest of their lives.”

“And that doesn’t cheer them up? Go figure…”

“You know,” said Jack. “I can tell just by looking at you that you’ve put up with a lot of sh*t in your life…”

“And how...”

“So,” continued Jack. “Maybe you wouldn’t mind helping me down from up here…”

Holding her breath, Dina unhooked Jack from the post he was hanging on.

“I’ve got a really bad idea,” said Dina once she had the scarecrow down. “Why don’t you come see the Mizard with me?”

“The Mizard?” asked Jack, a puzzled expression on his face.

“Yeah, female wizard,” nodded Dina. “Queer, I know.”

“Can she give me some straw?” asked Jack.

“I hear she can do anything,” answered Dina, picking up Rikko and stroking his back.

“Damn,” said Jack. “I’m so excited I’m going to have to get my sing on…”

Jack: I wouldn’t while away the hours,
Maybe stop and smell the flowers
Or good deeds I’d commit.
Maybe people would stop yellin’
every time they were a smellin’
If I wasn’t so full of sh*t.

Dina: Big thoughts you could be thinkin'
If you weren’t so busy stinkin’
Cuz you’re really full of sh*t.

Jack: Oh, I.........
Wouldn’t be so shy.
Wouldn’t be unsure anymore.
My own aroma I think I could ignore,
Because I'd sit, and stink no more.
I could earn a couple of degrees
If my head weren’t full of feces,
My heart all full of grit.
I would give a big shoutout,
Wouldn’t smell just like an outhouse,
If I wasn’t full of sh*t.

“Well,” said Dina, picking up her basket of supplies and setting the ferret back on the Yellow Fit Road. “You can come with us as long as you stay downwind from me and Rikko.”

“You got it, Dina!” smiled Jack.

So….

We’re off to see the Mizard,
The Marvelous Mizard of Miz.
We’ll find she is a fitness whiz.
Yes, that’s the kind of a whiz she is.
If ever oh ever a Wiz there is,

“Downwind,” yelled Dina. “Downwind!”

The Mizard of Miz (Part 1 of 6)

Dina Gail was in the Home section of K-Mart, shopping for a new bathroom scale (she’d accidentally-on purpose shattered the old one with a cinder block). She caught a reflection of herself in the Mirror aisle and noted two troubling observations: (1) she wasn’t doing so hot on her weight-loss journey and (2) everything she saw seemed to be in black and white. She debated calling the optometrist for an eye exam when suddenly she felt the sudden urge to burst out into song…

Somewhere, over the rainbow, I understand.
There's a place that I heard of: folks call it Onederland.
Somewhere, over the rainbow, life’s less exhausting.
And the dreams that you dream
Aren’t all about butter-cream frosting.
Someday I'll shake things up and wake up

To find that clothes no longer bind me.

I’ll develop a taste for food that’s fresh,
And quit seeing quite so much flesh

When I look behind me.
Somewhere, over the rainbow,
Some peeps diet. Peeps diet and find Onederland.
Why, then - oh, why won’t I try it?

If happy little people diet right to Onederland
Why, oh, why won’t I try it?

“ATTENTION, K-MART SHOPPERS,” boomed a voice over the loudspeakers. “FOR THE NEXT FIFTEEN MINUTES, WE’RE OFFERING A BLUE LIGHT SPECIAL ON FERRET SHAMPOO.”

“Ohh,” exclaimed Dina excitedly, opening her purse slightly to speak to her pet ferret Rikko she had squirreled away in there. “Didja hear that? A special on ferret shampoo!”

Rikko squealed with excitement as Dina clasped the purse back shut and turned her cart back toward Pet Supplies.

“ALSO,” continued the voice. “THIS AREA IS UNDER A SEVERE TORNADO WATCH FOR THE NEXT FIFTEEN MINUTES. ALL SHOPPERS ARE ADVISED TO MOVE TO THE BACK OF THE STORE FOR THEIR OWN PERSONAL SAFETY.”

“Ha!” laughed Dina as she watched a hoard of panicked shoppers rush past her. “More ferret shampoo for me!”

A few minutes later, she was greedily piling bottles into her cart when her purse started banging wildly at her side.

“Geez!” Dina frowned. “Calm down. I’m not getting you any ferret treats this trip. We’re just…”

But Dina suddenly realized that the lights just went dark and the entire store had just been lifted up into the air and was spinning wildly. She held on tightly to the handle of the cart with one hand and continued grabbing at value-priced pet shampoo with the other.

“Gotta… hurry,” exclaimed Dina breathlessly. “Blue… light… special… over… in… ten… minutes.”

Suddenly the ground shook violently and Dina made her way to the front of the store to see what exactly had happened.

As she exited the store, she was somewhat surprised to find that she was seeing in Technicolor and that the parking lot had been replaced with a strange little colorful village filled with tiny huts and miniature versions of Burger King, McDonald’s and Taco Bell.

“Rikko,” said Dina breathlessly. “I don’t think we’re in K-Mart anymore.”

She let Rikko out of her handbag, and he flopped to the ground and sniffed at the air.

“Yeah, I know,” said Dina excitedly. “French fries!”

Then she heard strange tittering, along with the sound of noisy chewing.

“Who’s there?” called out Dina.

Rikko looked up into the sky and starting sneering and spitting. Dina gazed up to witness a giant bubble floating gently to earth. Inside the orb was a smiling woman holding a wand and wearing a sparkly white dress.

“Tricia?” asked Dina, squinting into the sun.

“G`day, my dear,” said the red-headed woman who emerged from the bubble. “Some people call me Dietgirl, but my name is Shaunda the Good.”

“The good what?” asked Dina.

“The good witch,” replied the smiling Shaunda. “You’ve saved all the good people of Munchin’ville.”

“Munchin’ville?” asked Dina, perplexed.

“You’re kinda slow on the uptick aren’t you, dearie,” chirped Shaunda. “Muchin’ville is the home of the Munchins.”

“Are those the little creeps chowing down on all the fast food?” asked Dina.

“Oh course, my dear,” smiled Shaunda.

“I guess they don’t like me,” remarked Dina. “Or else they don’t like you.”

“They’re afraid of you, dearie,” laughed Shaunda. “After all, you killed the woman who terrorized them for years.”

“Say what?”

“That’s right,” said Shaunda. “You dropped your house on the evil Bitch Cakes.”

“First off, it’s not my house, it’s a K-Mart,” snapped Dina. “And second, I have no idea who this Bitchface person is.”

“Bitch Cakes, the wicked bitch of the East Coast,” explained Shaunda. “She also has a famous weight-loss blog.”

“Oh, I have a famous weight-loss blog called Pseudogout,” remarked Dina. “Only it’s not very famous and it’s hardly ever about weight loss.”

Shaunda turned and began singing loudly…

Come out, come out.
Put down your milkshakes.
A
nd meet the young lady,
Who crushed ol’ Bitch Cakes.

She fell from the sky,
She fell like a log.
And Pseudogout, she says,
I
s the name of her blog.
Pseudogout, she says,
Is the name of her blog.

She brings you good news.
Tidings unsurpassed.

Did she bitchslap Miss Bitch Cakes?
You bet your sweet ass.

As a whole slew of roly-poly little people slowly made their way out of hiding, carrying with them sacks of greasy fried food, Dina backtracked to the fallen K-Mart and noticed a twisted arm sticking out of the wreckage.

“Yes, you definitely killed Bitch Cakes,” said Shaunda. “She had a ton of followers, too.”

“Look at that sparkly ruby Body Bugg strapped to her arm,” noted Dina appreciatively. “That was one stylin’ bitch.”

“Yes, she was,” agreed Shaunda, kneeling to take the armband.

“Ummmm,” commented Dina. “Should you be taking that?”

“Well,” laughed Shaunda. “I think her step-counting days are ovah, sister.”

Suddenly an evil laugh filled the air and a hard, grating voice could be heard from above.

The Munchins all dropped their lunches and ran screaming for cover. Rikko ran up under Dina’s legs and started quivering with fear.

“Who’s that?” asked Dina.

“Oh,” said Shaunda. “That’s the wicked bitch.”

“Hold on,” sneered Dina. “You said the wicked bitch was dead.”

“That was the other wicked bitch.”

“Bitch of the East, bitch of the West,” frowned Dina. “Just how many bitches are up in this crackhouse anyway?”

“Just one now,” smiled Shaunda. “But she’s the really, really bad one.”

“Damn, I wish this cold medicine would wear off…” said Dina, shaking her head.

“You killed Bitch Cakes,” cackled Jillian. “And I’m about to tear into you like you brought a sack of gummi bears to a Last Chance Workout. I’m gonna… wait! What’s that you’ve got on your arm?”

“What?” said Dina, looking down at herself. There, strapped to her left bicep was the ruby red Body Bugg.

“That’s my Body Bugg!” screamed Jillian. “Give it to me!”

Dina tugged at the armband. “Ummmm, I can’t seem to get it off.”

“I’ve got a good idea,” smiled Jillian cruelly. “How about I just rip your arm out of the socket and…”

A cellphone buzzed and Jillian stopped to answer it.

“What is it , Bob?” she shrieked. “They’re starting the weigh-in without me? Oh, I don’t think so…”

Jillian hung up and turned to face Dina again. “Okay, little missy,” she yelled. “This sh*t ain’t over. I’ll get you and your little… what in the name of holy f*ck is that thing anyway?”

“He’s my ferret, bitch,” sneered Dina.

“Well, I’m gonna get you and your little … ferret, too,” cackled Jillian. “Man, that just doesn’t sound quite right.”

Still shaking her head, Jillian got on her broomstick and flew off.

“You really don’t want to antagonize her, my dear,” noted Shaunda. “She’s very powerful.”

“Well, I think it’s a little late for that, don’t you?” asked Dina.

“If I were you, I’d head to Miz,” suggested Shaunda.

“To Miz?”

“Yes, to see the marvelous Mizard of Miz.”

“What’s a ‘mizard’?” asked Dina.

“Female wizard,” answered Shaunda.

“Of course it is,” sighed Dina, shaking her head. “Okay, I suppose that’s the only way I’m ever getting home. So I do I find this marvelous mizard?”

“Why, you follow the Yellow Fit Road,” smiled Shaunda.

“Follow the Yellow Fit Road?” asked Dina.

“Did I stutter?” laughed Shaunda. “Just follow the Yellow Fit Road and it will take you all the way to the Land of Miz. Be be forewarned: you will meet many strange characters and have many adventures along the way.”

“Kill me dead,” muttered Dina.

“Don’t forget to set the ruby Body Bugg,” said Shaunda. “And it wouldn’t hurt you to jog some of the way.”

On her way down the brick jogging path, various Munchins offered her Pringles, beef jerky and juice boxes for the trip, placing them in a small basket.

“I guess there’s no chance of getting some Tequila?” asked Dina.

The Munchins tittered, waved goodbye and began singing to Dina...

Follow the Yellow Fit Road.
Follow the Yellow Fit Road.

Follow, follow, follow, follow,

Follow the Yellow Fit Road.
Follow the Yellow Fit, Follow the Yellow Fit,
Follow the the Yellow Fit Road…

“I swear,” muttered Dina, starting to jog down the brick pathway. “This is gonna be a long-ass week.”

A Loss on Halloween Week? That’s Downright Spooky!

Weekly weigh-in: 212.5
Loss: -2.1
Total loss: 79.0 lbs.
Emotion: Hobo-hunting

A funny thing happened on my way to my Friday Halloween parties…

I spent the entire week with a sharp focus on my diet and an increased intensity with my workouts. I was trying to bank a bunch of extra-good days in order to leave myself some leeway during what was sure to be a wild Halloween weekend.

By the time Friday arrived, I knew I could cut loose a little if I wanted to without feeling an overload of guilt. I had paid in advance for a little fun. But as I stepped up to the big bowl of tortilla chips and the bubbling rotel dip, I found that the idea of stuffing myself with that kind of crap didn’t hold a whole lot of appeal. I thought about that 15-mile uphill climb on the bike I’d made the day before and the 750 calories it had burned. Fifty minutes of sweaty grunt-it-out misery equated (calorie-wise) to about ten chips and dip. I don’t know, but that just didn’t seem like a fair trade... so I just backed away.

That night, I found myself at another party and another table laden with high-fat treats (though, to be honest, there were plenty of healthy choices as well). I noshed on fresh veggies and nursed a couple of Heineken Lights. Towards the end of the evening, I found myself gravitating back to the food table, but wound up talking myself down from the ledge.

As for Halloween night, I’ve got a take-it-or-leave-it attitude to candy due to the fact that my Nazi dentist accidentally pulled my sweet tooth when I was a child. That’s not to say that I haven’t raided the kids’ treat bag in the past; it’s just that it doesn’t hold the same temptation for me as other things.

So that’s how I navigated through the rapids of a party-filled holiday week and managed to bring home a loss for the week.

This next week marks a bit of a departure for JSGF. I started what I thought was going to be an ordinary post and it just took on a life of its own, spreading out over the entire week, incorporating all kinds of blogging guest stars and straying off the weigh-loss ranch pretty badly. If tomorrow’s post doesn’t ring your bell, I’d suggest staying away for the rest of the week because each day just gets worse than the one before.

A nice loss and a week of silliness to look forward to… that’s a good reason to smile, if you ask me.

Reasons NOT to Lose Weight (Plus a Couple of Guest Posts)

Welcome to "Same Old Sh*t Saturday" where I rerun some of the older posts that mean something extra to me. It's my special way of getting out of a little work, which doesn't explain why in the hell I'm guest posting today for Michelle at Eating Journey as well as Ashley at A Daily Dose of Dieting.

Anyway, what makes this particular post special to me is that it's where this space quit being a daily diary/commentary and started really being Jack Sh*t, Gettin' Fit. It's the one that made me realize I could be completely ridiculous and it was okay. Maybe even better than okay...

Reasons NOT to Lose Weight

  • Shame to waste all my “fat” pants
  • 25-lb. bags of potato chips at Costco make unhealthy lifestyle extremely affordable
  • Time spent weight loss blogging could easily be filled with TV watching
  • Less sweaty gym clothes = less laundry
  • Might miss out on playing Santa Claus at holiday parties
  • Easier to maintain casual friendships with all those fast food drive-thru workers
  • Don’t have to answer that embarrassing “Are you losing weight?” question
  • Good excuse to wear sweatpants in public
  • Don’t have to worry about a lot of leftovers cluttering up fridge
  • Get more for your money at “all-you-can-eat” buffet
  • Answer to all life’s problems? Gravy
  • Have kick-*ss health insurance to deal with any weight-related problems
  • Have gotten good at punching new holes in belt with screwdriver
  • Guy that owns the local Ben & Jerry’s franchise really wants me back
I dunno. I make a pretty compelling argument, but I think I’m gonna stick with the plan.

I’m Sorry, Snoop Dogg

With so much drama in the b-l-o-g,
It's kinda hard bein’ Jack S-h-*-t.
But I, somehow, some way
Keep comin’ up with funky diet tips like every single day.
May I kick a little something for the ol’ fat Ts,
And, make a few jokes as I breeze through.
Two in the mornin’ and my blog’s unwritten
'Cause my three kids ain’t home,
Me and Anita in the living room gettin’ it on.
Don’t gotta be at work ‘til eight in the mornin’.
So what am I gonna do, sheeeit
I got a notebook full of ideas and a poem or two.
So fire up the laptop and close the doors.
Gotta get myself back to them weight-loss wars, yeah!
So I open a document and blow a kiss
And hope I get a good blog post outta this.

Rollin ‘round the net, makin’ wordplay, tappin’ my creative juices.
Losin’ weight [with my mind on my bloggin’ and my bloggin’ on my mind]
Rollin ‘round the net, makin’ wordplay, tappin’ my creative juices.
Losin’ weight [with my mind on my bloggin’ and my bloggin’ on my mind]

Now, I got me some Bigelow green tea,
And put on my “Best of ABBA” CD.
Get out that laptop, sit in my favorite chair.
Gonna start soon as I finish a game of solitaire.
Every subject I ponder just hits a dead end.
I’m suffering from a lil’ writer’s block, girlfriend.
Keep bangin’ my head, now I’m getting’ pissed.
Can’t even fart out another silly list.
Yeah, this cold snap is making me feel extra meek,
Looks like I’m gonna mess up my six-month streak.
But you think I’m gonna gain weight? Bitch please!
Gimme a cheese sammich, hold the bread and hold the cheese.
I’m more committed to my journey than Thelma and Louise.
Sh*t, I’m just…

Rollin ‘round the net, makin’ wordplay, tappin’ my creative juices.
Losin’ weight [with my mind on my bloggin’ and my bloggin’ on my mind]
Rollin ‘round the net, makin’ wordplay, tappin’ my creative juices.
Losin’ weight [with my mind on my bloggin’ and my bloggin’ on my mind]

Later on that day
My homey Dr. Geoff comes over and we watch “Top Chef”
By ourselves, drink some produce juice that makes me choke
Sh*t, this ain’t no joke.
Tried another swallow but I finally had to quit.
Carrot juice cocktail made me throw up just a bit.
But there ain’t no stoppin, I gotta get bloggin’.
Throw Geoff out cuz it’s time to get rockin’.
I’m at my desk, just bouncin’ along merrily.
Knock out a super-quick Snoop Dogg parody.
Got it done, girl, that’s just how it goes.
Hittin’ those lows, and going shopping for new clothes.
And I’ll be…

Rollin ‘round the net, makin wordplay, tappin my creative juices.
Losin’ weight [with my mind on my bloggin’ and my bloggin’ on my mind]
Rollin ‘round the net, makin wordplay, tappin my creative juices.
