Imagine, if you will, that somewhere in this big, wide world, somebody actually discovered an honest-to-God Fountain of Youth, a well that magically restores the youth and vitality of anyone who drinks of its miraculous waters.
How much would that well’s owner be able to charge for a visit? $10,000? $100,000? One million? I can tell you right now that you or I would never be able to afford it, would never get within sniffing distance of being able to afford it. Super-rich sheiks and LA billionaires would snap up the magic waters for their own personal indulgence. For you, it would be worse than the Fountain of Youth never having been found, because you would know that it was out there, yet would never have access to its recuperative gifts.
But today I come bearing remarkable news: you do have access to the Fountain of Youth. In fact, you’re on your way to lapping up those transcendental waters even as you read this, because this weight-loss journey you’re on is also a trip back in time as far as your body goes. You are on your way to luxuriously soaking in that enchanted pool and drinking in its extraordinary power.
Check out the before and after pics of anyone that’s ever dropped a great deal of weight. In almost every instance, besides looking thinner and fitter, those individuals look healthier, happier and years younger. I’ve started getting those comments, too, especially from folks I haven’t seen in quite some time.
“Wow, you look good.”
“You’re lookin’ fit.”
“You look ten years younger.”
My point? It’s simple: if a real Fountain of Youth existed, you would move heaven and earth… beg, borrow and steal in all likelihood… in an attempt to acquire its magical offering, yet you would almost certainly be denied access to its life-changing qualities.
However, you have it within yourself to unlock the gate to your own personal Fountain of Youth. Be successful on this weight loss journey and you will feel years younger. Conquer your battle with the scale and people will tell you that it looks as though Father Time has hit the “rewind” button.
This isn’t an uncertain quest for a mythical monolith; it’s a virtual certainty, and it’s something that each and every one of us has in their power to achieve.
You have the roadmap. You know exactly what it will take in order to be successful. There is nothing or no one holding you back. And the reward… health, youth, vitality… would seem to be worth whatever effort or hardship you must endure to attain it.
The Fountain of Youth.
It’s waiting there for you to uncover.
This is so true Jack! Not only do I feel younger but I can now keep up with my kids, it's amazing what losing weight can do to a person, great post as usual.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the bags under my eyes this morning I'd like to dip my head in it right about now.
ReplyDeleteI'd hire a plane and parachute into the pool. :) No stopping me. Though they'd probably shoot down my parachute, I'd land in the pool, and people would remark at my funeral about how good I look.
ReplyDeleteIt's so true.
ReplyDeleteYou got that right!!! I feel better now at 49 then I did when I turned 40.
ReplyDeleteHowever gravity is doing it's thing as well. You can't have everything!
Great post...natch
I just wish it fixed The Creakies when I get out of bed in the morning. Ouch!!!
ReplyDeleteGood post and so true!!! I sure know I feel better today than I have my whole life.

ReplyDeleteI feel younger, stronger, and more energetic than I did in my 20's. My secret? Not weighing 300 pounds!!
ReplyDeleteThe great thing is that the fountain of youth that comes from health isn't a secret, and it isn't expensive!
Why do I have a feeling if joan rivers is still alive, anybody approaching the fountain of youth would lose a limb. I feel better today than I did two years ago, that's for sure. I am only 36 and ihave some grey hair. I know it's from my husband going to Iraq so many times and a bad year of my life. I am just hoping I didn't knock years off (you know what I'm sayin). I wonder how i'll feel in a year, let's find out.
ReplyDeleteThe fountain of youth is in my backyard right now. For a nominal fee I will let you partake in its refeshing waters.
ReplyDeleteWow. That was fucking AWESOME. This one hit me right in the face - I DO feel younger and better than I did a year ago. I need to just keep being active, keep acting YOUNG.
ReplyDeleteExcellent post Jack.
Dude, that was a fantastic post. Just really excellent. Extremely true, and thus very motivating and rich.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! ^_^ I hope I can keep to the road map!
ReplyDeleteI agree....but speaking of pictures, where are YOUR before and nows? lol
ReplyDeleteGreat post Jack....very true. I know how paramount anonymity is to you...but is there any reason why you can't post before and progress pics with your head chopped off?
ReplyDeleteI hate to admit it but one of my biggest motivations to lose weight was when I looked in the mirror. My face looked so swollen. I didn't even have much eyelids when I was putting on my eyeshadow. I just freaked out at how much I was aging. That's when I decided to lose weight. It's been slow... 1.5 years to lose a measly 30 pounds. But its okay cuz father time is going to keep marching and whatever I can do to get him to stop marching all over my face, I'm gonna do it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your blog.
Take care.

i no longer have to grab the back of the chair in front of me at church to stablize myself when i stand up. now thats younger!
ReplyDeleteI worry that I'll look older when I lose more weight, because I won't have the fat filling out the wrinkles.
ReplyDeletejust found your blog--dude, you are awesome. very.
ReplyDeleteWhere is the next part of your infomercial? ;0 Seriously, you would have a fabulous career writing those things; I was waiting to see what product you'd introduce. I'd buy it!
ReplyDeleteYou absolutely said it all! What a fantastic post!!! I have more muscle now that when I was 20. It can be done! And Jack, your entry into weights will help you get there! I used to be a cardio queen (and I still do quite a bit of cardio) but nothing reshaped my bod like weights.. and the right food! :-) Thx for your kind comments on my post.
ReplyDeletePS: I just want to be in that pic of yours anyway. How beautiful!
Ponce De Leon was looking in the wrong place.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about this one!
ReplyDeleteThis past summer my BIL saw me for the first time since I've lost 60 lbs and remarked I looked much younger.
I can't wait till he sees me when I lose the next 40 lbs!
I'll be the next Garber baby food model!
lol!
Feel better - yes. Look better - yes. Look younger - sorry - can't agree with that one. I always look older when I lose weight, and I've noticied this about several other women friends as well. As another reader commented, it's something about the extra weight filling in the wrinkles. When I get thinner I look more haggard. I still look "better" overall, but definitely older.
ReplyDeleteThis is another one of those places where men get the better deal...they don't look older, they look "distinguished."
You sir are a brilliant wordsmith and a fitness inspiration.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if I look younger, but I definitely feel younger. More energy, and more stamina. Have had so many people tell me how great I look this week. I'm trying not to let it go to my head. ;)
ReplyDeleteYOUR BEST POST EVER! A friend asked me if I had "done botox" the other day. Amazing what losing 50 pounds the healthy (diet and exercise and lot of water) way will do for ya. Loved the pictures too. Is that really you? I didnt think you ever posted pictures. Thanks for the laughs!!
