Subject #3 in the "Bodfather"
Witness Reduction Program: Tom
Witness Reduction Program: Tom
Height: 5' 9"
Starting weight: 437.5
Current Weight: 433
Total loss: -4.5 lbs.
Call me the Bodfather.
I’m chronicling the stories of five overweight folks as they do what they can to bring positive change in their lives. It’s not a “Biggest Loser” deal; there’s no competition, no grand prize (other than better health and the thrill of wearing skinnier pants). I try to provide some information, encouragement and support, and I did hook each of them up with a free Philips DirectLife activity monitor. But other than that, I’m not really doing much but watching, waiting and writing. Just like with all of us, it’s a do-it-yourself project.
Tom started out like gangbusters, and I had a hunch he was going to blow the others out of the water. If you ever want to stir up some sh*t (and let’s face it… some of us enjoy sh*t-stirring more than others), lay out the argument that it’s easier for women to lose weight than it is for men. Oh, people will come back at you with a lot of “facts” about how the opposite is actually true, but it makes for a few hours of good, clean fun.
Don’t use this to contradict me the next time I say “It’s easier for women to lose weight than men”, but I’m pretty sure that men have a metabolic advantage in this arena. Simply put, most of us guys (when we put our minds to it) can lose larger amounts faster than the fairer sex. I guess that’s to make up for men being paid less than women in the workplace…
That said, I had Tom pegged as the man to beat, and he proved how smart I was by coming out of the gate like he was shot out of a cannon.
But over the holidays, I started hearing from Tom less and less. While most of the “Bodfather” participants would check in with me every couple of days, weeks would pass without word from the lone male in the “Bod Squad”. It didn’t take a Sh*tlock Holmes to guess that Tom wasn’t burning up the scale.
His last check-in was a pretty casual affair, and I didn’t even get mad until I looked at the numbers and realized that Tom’s nine-week adventure has netted a total loss of 4.5 pounds. loss. At his size, he could lose that in a week if he really wanted to do it. If he really got serious about it.
I’m calling you out, Tom. Talking about how much you want to do this is all well and good, but it’s time to sh*t or get off the pot. Nobody said this was going to be fast and nobody said it was going to be easy, but remember… you’re the one who knocked on my door.
I turned down hundreds of people who were looking for help, Tom. Looking to change their lives for the better. This is a great opportunity, and you’re squandering it.
The people who leave comments here will probably be much nicer to you than I’m being, but that doesn’t change the fact that I think it’s time for you to nut up and start getting after it.
Waste your own time if you want to, but now you’re wasting the rest of ours.
Decide if you want to do this… and do it right… and get back to me.
Bodfather out.
Tom, you got to want to lose weight for yourself, not for some complaining dick's blog.
ReplyDeletetough love, eh Jack?
ReplyDeleteYou can run but you can't hide Tom , so buddy come out of hiding and let us cheer you on! You CAN do it...don't let whatever is in your way to hold you back from getting what you want!
ReplyDeleteI am gonna get on the elliptical today for 40 min , care to do it(or whatever your cardio choice is) today too!???
Hey Jack, if anyone drops out, will you consider coming back to include someone who was very very very keen to be in the programme?
ReplyDeletelesley
Ooooo... them's fightin' words! Tom, get fighting mad and kick your health plan up a notch. You can do it!
ReplyDeleteJack may be a dick, but he's right. Sometimes calling someone out, and pissing them off is enough to get them to actually do what they talk about. Talk is cheap Tom, it's time to man up!
ReplyDeleteWell said Jack. How about it Tom?
ReplyDeleteTom - It's never going to be easy, there isn't a fast fix and if you have someone willing to help you and harass you and support you and bring you through - you damn sure better use it to your advantage.
ReplyDeleteAnd Jack? You're good people.
I just watched a video about how you should keep your goals to yourself.

Kinda runs opposite to the whole weight-loss blogging thing doesn't it?
I doubt I would have come as far as I have without my blog.
You can do it Tom. It's balls to the wall time.
Wow, a little tough love JackSht style. I think we've all been where Tom is at some point, I really hope he realizes he can do this, that he must do this and kicks some serious butt. Yes, it's hard, yes it sucks sometimes, but in the long run he will regret not doing it. Who needs regrets in life?!
ReplyDeleteJack Shit dishing out the tough love!?! ahh! I dont do well with the giving/receiving of tough love myself, Im a wimp!
ReplyDeleteIf I may say so though, I think you should pick up Leslie if you do drop the slacker though!! :-D
Tom, I know you can do this. You have to do it for yourself. Or for revenge against the lashing Jack has given here.
ReplyDeleteWhy do I love the phrase "nut up?"
Nicely put Jack, hopefully Tom can turn it around. Tom, time to step it up a little! Cheers, Rick
ReplyDeleteI'm not going to get on Tom's case, because my nuts are not exactly up right now either.
ReplyDeleteI just had to come in and laugh at you, Jack, for saying, "sh*t or get off the pot". The only person I have ever heard say that is my mother. Very old school.
Hundreds? Really?
Wrong Video.

Enjoy the snowplow fail though.
Not gonna lie... I'm now kind of scared of you now, Jack.
ReplyDeleteWow - Jack, I think you were extra nice considering.. lol. I don't appreciate people wasting my time, I wouldn't be nearly as nice as you. I especially don't have patience for people who complain about their weight, make long lists of goals and then never do sh*t about it. Be fat, be skinny.. but don't bitch about how you hate your fat ass and then never do anything about it. At over 400 lbs, even a slight (real!!) effort with diet and exercize would easlily cause a 2 - 3 lbs per week loss. You have to eat a hell of a lot of calories to maintain 400+ lbs.
ReplyDeleteTom - put down that fork, quit putting crap food into your body, start moving that ass!!! and maybe even work hard enough to sweat a little... TODAY!!! or you can stay over 400 lbs and keep on living like you have been. It's your choice.
Man 'vs' Woman Weight Loss - Since 1/3/2011 - my husband has lost 19 pounds and I have lost 6 - he's on 1500 and I'm on 1200 - yet I am happy that I do show a loss and I'm eating very healthy - I wish I could put the same numbers as him but 'IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN' - Come on Tom you can do it dude
ReplyDeleteGoes to show you that you can't "Flip the switch" for someone... they HAVE to do it themselves.
ReplyDeleteThat being said- Get off your ass Tom! Get your sh*t together! Do not die!!! RUN- DON'T WALK!!
Thank you.
Want me to go kick his rear end?
ReplyDeleteHey Jack, Al says your dick complains. Does it also whistle? If so, you could make a killin with it. Just joking. Come on Tom you can do it!. Gracie
ReplyDelete((chubby girl looking down at empty arms and realizing she ain't got no stones to throw))
ReplyDeletepeace and blessings! ;) - kirsten
Tom, move forward starting today..imagine where you could be a year from now if you tried, and go for it!
ReplyDeleteTom....I believe in you. :)
ReplyDeleteJack youre definately not being too tough. Its one thing to not follow through with something and to waste peoples time but its another to completely hide out and ignore.
ReplyDeleteTom, were all in this together, we all have good weeks and bad weeks but were all still here trying...come back!
