The Jack Sh*t Pom/Cheribundi Challenge

It was time for somebody to step up and make a once-and-for-all determination of which juice... POM Wonderful pomegranite or Cheribundi cherry juice is better. Strap in for the Jack Sh*t Pom/Cheribundi Challenge...

Let's start with POM. This cute little bottle contains 8 oz of 100% pomegranate juice. Of the 160 calories, 136 are from sugar. The 34 grams of sugar per serving amount to over 8 teaspoons! It does feature plenty of antioxidants, which makes it remarkably similar to every other type of fruit juice on the planet. But the bottle's cute!

Cherribundi is a completely different story. An 8-oz. bottle has 130 - 160 calories and 27 grams of sugar, but is high in antioxidants. Okay... so it's the same story pretty much. One version, "Whey Cherry" has more protein which they accomplished by adding a secret ingredient.*

*Protein

But which one is actually better? There's only one way to find out...

A double-blind taste test (I have a blindfold AND my eyes are closed).

Okay so there's a couple of problems with the "double-blind" test scenario...

But nothing an intelligent guy like me can't deal with.

Blindfolded, my other senses become hyper-sharp to compensate. For example, I can tell from listening that liquid is being poured into a glass.

Mmmmm... pomegranatey.

This one sounds similar, but slightly different.

This reminds me of that time I ate some cherries.

A little tarter than the POM... I mean, the first sample that I sampled.

You know what would be good with this one?

I'm a super-jenious!

I've just invented a brand new, never been discovered juice blend.

No, waitaminute... I've had this before...

Must test theory...

Holy sh*t! I was right... I invented wine.

I think I'm onto something with this mixing business though...

Perhaps a tiny amount of vodka...

Slurp.

Dayum!

Let's expand on this theory...

A smidge of POM...

A few drops of Cherribundi for tartness.

Okay, well now I've forgotten what I was doing here, so I guess I'll just declare this contest a draw and move on.

Full disclosure: POM and Cherribundi provided free samples of their products for "review" purposes. The Sky Vodka was provided for free via "shoplifting" and the Smirnoff was "borrowed" from my next-door neighbor whose house I'm "watching" this weekend.

  2. Jack, tell the truth... you kept on drinking long after you turned the camera off, right? Or should we ask how much you drank before you started the picture taking? Either way, awesome stuff Jack!

  3. I started worrying about the white shirt in the first picture LOL....

I would choose the Cheribundi based solely on the cool sounding name, but your Cheribunditini looks even cooler.

BTW are these people crazy sending a weight loss blogger JUICE!?! Is there anyone on the planet who drinks juice regularly and loses weight?

  23. I do not think people realize how good that post was...

You had to answer and stay in contact with two PR people who love their product. You had to give your address and tell them you would do a review of their product.

Not only that, but you took their product and talked about the sugar in it. When I spoke to the POM person and told her there was too much sugar in her beverage, she never answered again. The Cheribundi person went straight to my spam mailbox.

    Bravo.....bravo.

  25. I'm watching this, laughing like a fool, and all the while thinking, "How the hell is his wife going to get that juice out of that white shirt?" I think I have a problem.

I suggest going with neither juice and instead trying Simply (insert fruit name here). I drink the cranberry (but they also make pomegranate and cherry) and love it. I don't drink it straight (don't think I'd ever unpucker), but add a splash (read: 1oz) to a glass of water. It's usually with the organic stuff.

  36. That was great jack. I like ketel one with my POM lol. Never had cheribundi but might have to try that mix sometime, hmmm, nah I'll stick with my vodka and crystal light pink lemonade less calories lol.

Yea, you sure did a number on that shirt. Hopefully you borrowed that from the neighbor too lol.

  37. You are so funny, Jack. That was great!

  38. That was great! I like POM better. I'd drink it a lot, which wouldn't be that good considering all the sugar...but luckily it's like, 4 bucks for a small bottle, so I can't get it that often. Next time I will have to try it with a little vodka though.

  39. Funny! But now you'll have the laundry detergent people sending you samples to review!

  40. I don't think I've ever commented on your blog before but I had to tell you this was hysterical! I also noted you poured my favorite wine. I admit to a great fondness for red wine, but can skip the sugary juices. It's important to choose your calories carefully, so considering red wine vs. sugary juice - the wine wins every time.

  41. it's only good when it's in a foo-foo "martini" type drink.

  44. Ex-squeeze meee. But did anyone wonder about the beer glass? I think you need to redo the test and make sure the beer gets a chance to hop(s) in. Or had you drunk the beer before the test????......... hmm could explain a lot.
