No, I don’t mean that I’m attracted to his roguish good looks or that I want to go out dancing with him, though he is a rather attractive man and looks to be an excellent dancer from the commercials I saw when he was on that star-dancing TV show.
No, I’m exhibiting a man-crush on Rocco because he’s helping shatter the stereotype that the only thing men can cook are dead animals charred on the grill. As a celebrity chef and cookbook author, he’s broken new ground for guys who want to show that they know their way around a kitchen. I’d have done it myself, but I can’t find a publisher interested in my proposed cookbook Dishes Too Spicy for Your Family.
In his new book Now Eat This!, Chef Rocco has created a ton of low-calorie versions of favorite recipes, including Chocolate Mousse (originally 455 calories, now down to 145), Jalapeno Poppers at only 144 calories (vs. the original at 447), Loaded Nachos (down from 880 calories to 341) and Buffalo & Blue Chicken Tenders (at a fourth of their original calorie count).
That’s why I went out of my way to track down Rocco and see if he and I could do a little something-something over here. After all, we’re both celebrities. He’s a celebrity because he’s been on TV and written best-selling cookbooks; I’m a celebrity because I have a warped sense of reality.
Actually, Rocco’s PR team got hold of me and were interested in me running a contest where I gave a couple of lucky readers signed copies of his newest cookbook, which showcases 150 options for eating favorite no-no foods the healthy way. As an added bonus, he even includes healthy tips and ingredient substitutions that will keep you on track towards your healthy living goals.
The only mandatories were that I had to make the contest last a week, had to discriminate against everyone not living in the United States of America and couldn’t reveal that Rocco DiSpirito’s real name is Howard Higgenbottom.
Winning your own signed copy of Now Eat This! signed by Chef Rocco DiSpirito himself couldn’t be easier; simply leave a comment on this post or tweet me (and include “Rocco”) at @JackSht. But you’ve got to do it before Tuesday, February 8th. I’ll pick 2 winners (U.S. Residents only, sorry) to receive the book and announce them a week from today.
If you don’t win the cookbook, rest easy because Rocco shares healthy tips and recipes from both his Twitter account and his Facebook page. It’s like having a celebrity chef cheering you on towards your healthier self!
So enter now and eat the healthy
Rocco DiSpirito/Jacko DiSh*ttio way!
I think this is awesome! It's about time the celebrities noted your fame. You should have a coming out partay! Woop woop.
ReplyDeleteI'm commenting! I'm commenting!
ReplyDeleteWould love to receive the cookbook...
Um okay, so do I have to beg? Or flash the booblets? Or slip some cash under the table?
Hmmm. I love Rocco, too. But, if I don't win his cookbook, can I have an autographed copy of your "Dishes Too Spicy for Your Family?" (Just print one up on your own! I'm not fancy!)
ReplyDeleteBecause, to me? NOTHING says "I LOVE YOU" more than giving your family "fire-ass."
I also love Rocco and it is really just fun to say his name. Rocco, Rocco, Rocco... see that is fun!! I want to win :)
ReplyDeleteI love Rocco DiSpirito's cookbooks! He is yummy too!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of Rocco! Must go check out...
ReplyDeletePick me, pick me! I need all the help in the kitchen that I can get...
ReplyDeleteI love cook books. Please pick me! Other than that I really have nothing to ad to this conversation.
ReplyDeleteThis is a GREAT cookbook. Just checked it out last night at the library, and plan on going out to buy a copy, unless, of course, I win one from you, Jack!
ReplyDeleteI would love this cookbook. I am having trouble getting my husband excited about eating healthier and I think this would help out!
ReplyDeleteOh a chance to win a cookbook. I'd do almost anything for that. It's exciting to learn to cook and eat healthier. Thank you for this chance to win.
ReplyDeleteTake care Jake and have a blessed day!
ME! ME! PICK ME!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the books I wanted to pick up, but haven't been able to because I spent all the money on potato chips.
Take care Jake? I didn't write that....my fingers are not talking to my brain today, Jack Sh*t.....take care!!
ReplyDeleteSign me up! I got offered this too but I guess I responded too late so they said they will contact me next time around so... I still need this book! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes...I would like this cookbook...oh and I heard the man crush is mutual for you too
ReplyDeleteI think cooking from your Dishes Too Spicy For Your Family cookbook would certainly help me lose weight, and probably force it on my husband as well, and my daughter. But, since it's not currently in print, I suppose I'd settle for this DiSpirito fellow's attempt.
ReplyDeleteI wanna win! I wanna win! :)
ReplyDeleteNow I gotta go look for that loaded nacho recipe....
The cookbook looks great. I'm in snowy Canada, so I can't win, but I might just have to score this at the bookstore. Cheers, Rick
ReplyDeleteOh, I could use a new cookbook for inspiration. Pick me! I'm going looking for this guy too... (but not in a stalking way)
ReplyDeleteI totally want Rocco.
ReplyDeleteI mean his cookbook!
I'm going to tweet you too. Even though I know that won't get me an extra entry, I just like writing the word "tweet."
Colleen
Goodbye, Fat Girl!
Rocco is da bomb! would love to have that book! :-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to win Rocco's cookbook. I need to start cooking again and I love the kind of food you listed is in it - sounds like this cookbook will be just the thing for me :|
ReplyDeleteI've been looking to expand my healthy cookbook collection and I would love to get this cookbook! No foods should be "off-limits" - how awesome that he found ways to make our favorite terrible foods healthy so we can eat them more often, teehee.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win:) This and the lottery.
ReplyDeleteFood rut over here...need some inspiration!
ReplyDeleteTo say that I love Rocco is an understatement! I have been a fan since his show The Resturant. His weightloss has only added to my love for him. I heart you Rocco (you to Jack).
ReplyDeleteGuitar Guy and I would LOVE that cookbook! Thanks to you and Rocco for giving us a chance to win it!!
ReplyDeleteWow, this cookbook sounds AWESOME. I would love to have a copy of that for my family!
ReplyDeleteWow! What a great giveaway! I want one...pick me :) please
ReplyDeleteHey Jack Sh*t and Rocco..both "hot" guys IMO!
ReplyDeleteI read you all the time but first time I've entered one of your give aways. I would love this cookbook but because I am POOR (working for the pity vote here) and OLD this is the only way I can get one. If you want to trade I have some really OLD cookbooks but they don't do me much good because you have to have an "Ice Box" ..I really need a new up to date cookbook that will help me with my weightloss.
thanks!
I would love ROCCO'S cookbook to make some great tasting yet healthy meals for my hubby. Plus my first boyfriends name was Rocco!
ReplyDeleteOh, Rocco is so yummy and I bet his recipes are good too! I would love to have his cookbook. I have recently started stalking, I mean reading, your blog. Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI would love this cookbook! Lowest calorie dessert is his picture on the cover! ;)

ReplyDeleteI guess none of the recipes start out like Paula Deen's, "Ya'll take a stick of butter". Would love to have this cookbook, I'm tired of itty bitty portions, and need some lower calorie normal portion food.
ReplyDeleteI want in! Sign me up, please! =)
ReplyDeleteYou don't have a warped sense of reality! Look at all these lovely followers! That being said, your love for Rocco is shared by yours truly! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI have yet to be the proud owner of one of his cookbooks, but love that you and Rocco are kind enough to do this giveaway!

and
c) in between my healthy chicken and veggies staple, I've been eating not-so-healthy "normal" food options... like burritos. and nachos. mmmm mexican food... ENOUGH. point is, with this book, I could do so much better!
Pick me pick me pleeeeeeease!!!!!
I've tried to win this on other blogs lately but no luck. I know your random winner choosing method has a special place for me in it's (possibly robotic) heart though.
ReplyDeleteLove you Jack. Share your love of Rocco. And would LOVE to win Rocco's cook book. Thanks for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteWould love to win! Especially since I haven't won the lottery {yet} but, I promise I'll share if I win!
ReplyDeleteWould love to win!!! Love you Jack!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win. I hope you're doing well - I'm a quiet follower. But contests bring everyone out of the woodwork, don't they?
ReplyDeleteWOW, what a coincidence, you and I are celebrities for the exact. same. reason. ;)
ReplyDeleteOH I would love this book!!!! Pick me pick me please!!! =0)
ReplyDeletePick me!!!! I have to go back to cooking and the only cookbook I have has something to do with church ladies, so you know that cookbook is used only by those wanting salads that involve jello or casseroles that involve "2 sticks of butter or margarine, 2 cups of mayonnaise, 3 cans of cream of mushroom soup."
ReplyDeleteAnd I love Rocco...
I'm in - can always use a new cookbook to browse through while I eat the stuff I cooked from the same five recipes I know how to make!

What a great deal! We have loved Rocco since his first TV show. A chance to get his book and try some new recipes, priceless!
ReplyDeleteI tweeted AND commented. Which means I should win. : )
ReplyDeleteI'm in Canada, so can't win the book, but I'm over it...sort of. Have a good day Jack.
ReplyDeleteME ME!
ReplyDeleteRocco just called me and said that I automaticly win. He did. I swear.
ReplyDelete@SuperERizzle
I am leaving a comment. I hope to win...but I never win these poetical comment things. I would like the cookbook because I can't cook. I eat eggs every morning. I eat a granola bar or ham wrap for lunch and usually some form of chicken or turkey for dinner. Yes, I can continue to eat this way for the rest of my life..but you Jack, you have the power to save me from my dietetic ( I should get it for that word alone) fate. You can save me from food purgatory. Do it Jack, for God's sake.
ReplyDeleteI was checking out the book today @ B&N. My husband and I were drooling everywhere!
ReplyDeletetnanks for the give away
ReplyDeleteI'm commenting here, and I'm about to go Rocco your Twitter (wow, that sounds dirty). Thanks, Jack!!!
ReplyDeleteMy whole household of chubbies could use this book...
ReplyDeleteRocco is amazing! I'd love to win a copy of his cookbook - I hear there are some great recipes to help keep off weight loss ... and keeping off a 146 lb loss seems to be a full time job! [One last laugh - my daughter can never get his name right, so she insists on calling him Rocco Mediterranean! It's our favorite laugh!] ~ Mara *

I think it's great that Rocco has created a cookbook with healthier versions of the foods that sometimes are just irresistible! It'll be a great alternative for events like the superbowl!
