I Could Tell You What I Weigh, But Then I’d Have to Kill You

Weekly weigh-in: 225.0
Loss: -2.1
Total loss: 66.5 lbs.
Emotion: Mo better

Don’t worry about the title of this post; I was just trying to get your attention.

Not much fret about this week. My broke-down back is on the mend, and I was in the gym every day except yesterday (including a big double workout on Thursday). The Dow Jones Sweat Index was up 77% over the previous week.

My eating wasn’t spot-on–I still can’t always get a handle on those little handfuls or nibbles or tastes. My guess is that I consume a lot more calories than I realize with this crap-tastic behavior, but it’s just tough to rein in.

The problem is that, these days, my margin for error is much less. I’ll get it under control though… and my workouts will intensify this week, too. I’m getting close to where I want to be and would really like to see if I can make another big push in the next couple of weeks.

This post blows. Maybe a joke will liven it up. Okay, what did the bra say to the hat? You go on ahead and I'll give these two a lift.

Speaking of uplifting, 225 represents a pretty big milestone for me. It’s the last weight that I actually felt I was at my “ideal weight.” I’m not sure I believe this is the end of the road any more; I now think it’s at the upper range of what’s acceptable for me. This time, I feel like there’s work left to do.

I’ve concentrated 100% on cardio activities to get the scale spinning, but I told myself that at 225, it would be time to incorporate weights and other non-cardio types of exercise. In some ways, I’ve been dreading it because it’s another fresh start. In some ways, I’ve been looking forward to it because… well… it’s another fresh start.

Fall is right around the corner and the holidays are crouching behind a big rock, ready to pounce on us like they always do. Let’s make a big push and get some good work done before 2009 finally goes down the crapper. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to end the year with a bang.

  2. Awesome. And way to de-blow (un-blow?)your post by inserting a good joke. I just posted about my boobs deflating so the bra joke was perfect.

  4. Fresh starts do always have that double edged sword feel. Just do it. It will become routine in no time.

    You're doing a fantastic job. Seriously. ^5

  5. You will love the weights - seeing those muscles develop is great fun - go ahead and enjoy it!

And well done on another great weigh-in AND being at a comfortable weight.

  6. I can relate to not having the food "spot on" I KNOW I totally underestime food portions and calories. I bought a food scale and electronic calorie calculator last spring and have entered....oh maybe 2 things.
Nice visual (and good reminder) about the up-coming holidays. The weather is great for getting outside for activity....won't be long and we'll all be stuck inside with the "dreadmill"
    Great post as usual

  11. Woohoo! That's great! I was looking at your stats and you're doing so amazing.

Have you set a goal for yourself yet or are you just going to keep going until you feel you're at your healthy weight? How tall are you?

  16. That is pretty amazing!

  18. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are awesome & have done so well! Pat yourself on the back, Jack! Ha, I rhymed!!!

As for margins of error, I will tell you from my experience, And we are all different I know, but I have had to really keep on top of weight maintenance the whole time & really listen to my bod & make changes in both food & exercise along the way. It is a constant re-evaluation for me & especially with age & women hormones.

I think you are doing great. I don't know if you have done HIIT or plyometrics or even if your body joints can handle that but I found that a big help when my age hormones really caught up with me. Of course, weights have been a mainstay along with cardio for years now.

Keep up the great work Jack!

  19. I'm a sucker for terrible jokes/puns/one-liners.

I busted out laughing when I read that one.

Unfortunately, I'm at work right now, and I happen to work at the library. It's ok though, I kind of worked the laugh into a choked cough. No one was the wiser.

  22. WTG Man! Must be a great feeling!

    IMHO your posts never suck.

  23. Awesome job!! I wish I had an ounce of your motivation.

  24. WHOOT on the 225! WELL DONE INDEED! Here is the coolest thing...the more lean body mass (muscle!) you build...the higher your metabolism will burn and the less those little nibbles will matter...in fact..you will NEED some of them just to maintain once you get to where you want to get. Muscle.....baybee....built it....then burn! (burn...in a good way....you know what I mean..!)

  25. Way to go on the weight loss!

Now, something to remember. Muscle is the MOST metabolically active tissue. Once you start building more, the more calories you will burn, even at rest.

And it also changes the "shape" of your body. That is how I am fitting in smaller sizes at higher weights than I ever have before.

  26. Fabulous! I didn't really set a goal, but rather lost until I felt good about myself.

    Congrats.

  27. You and me both, brother. I need to make a big push before the holiday gauntlet if I am going to turn my weight clock back 15 years.

    Charge!!!

  28. Hey another kick-ass loss, despite the tatses and nibbles (isnt it shitty when you realize that if you cheat, you're cheating on yourself!? gawds)--and yeah, Im with you on the big push thing, as well as needing to incorporate some weight resistance to my workouts. Insert cheezy catchphrase: Lets Roll!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. The weights are good. I started them in February. They shave off more and the toning effects are wonderful. Muscle keeps your metabolism buring at a higher rate, so you will find maintenence easier. Let's see them muskels!

  30. Nice one Jack - keep up the sterling work. I understand what you mean with having to introduce new stuff - you've just got settled into one routine, and whilst it's new and interesting, it's also just one more challenge to have to deal with. Stick with it though - it'll be good to introduce it now.

  31. Congrats on reaching the 225 mark! If you need some help transitioning to weights, let me know. {snicker}

  32. I have never worked out with weights. Let me know if it works, I am incredibly curious. Kind of like George. He was curious as well.

    Nice loss.

  33. Congrats! I would like to end this year with a BANG as well!

  34. Woohoo great job this week!

I have to say, I dreaded starting weight/strength/resistance training too, but it's pretty sweet to see the progress as you get better it. Muscles start getting developed and toned, and you just feel so strong! I would say this type of training has been what's helped my self-confidence the most! I am a total klutz so it helped me to have 5 or so personal training sessions where I had someone teaching me the moves and watching my form, and then branching out to doing the moves on my own!

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  35. You've actually been working out with weight(s)...all the stuff you got rid of!!!

Congrats on reaching a personal milestone Jack. I can't get a handle on the little nibbles either, but still...you've made tremendous progress, and so have I!! I look forward to hearing how your weight training goes...either in your direct words or through one of your famous funky posts!! :-)

    P.S. Loved the bra joke!

  36. You are awesome. Over 60 pounds and still going. Weights are fantastic. They really sculpt. You could get some new guns. Just watch where you aim them.

  37. Kettle Bells!!!!
Or Ashtanga Yoga, but it will kick your ass.
    good luck and congratulations

  38. Great job mister Sh*t. Glad to see that you are nearing your goals.

  39. Great job on the loss! I want to end the year with a bang too, lets kick but and lose the weight!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congrats!

Your comment 'my margin for error is much less' makes me ask what do you do? Do you change your exercise or food routine?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good job you big loser.

And I'm totally with you on the handfuls and bites. I know my second belly roll is nothing but a few goldfish crackers here, a bite of a chicken nugget there . . .

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh yes, I definitely want to finish the year with a bang!

Congratulations on the loss this week!

  43. I know what you mean about not being sure if that's the end of your road. I set my goal weight at 175. I wanted to be under 200, and I wasn't ever sure that I could make it to anything below 175. Now, I just say I'm going to bust my proverbial balls and let the chips fall where they will. I still use 175 as a goal weight, just to put a number to it and have something to shoot for.

I have a big jar of pickles with your name on them just waiting.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree. Those weights will make muscles that in turn, will burn more calories every time you move. And besides, a good toning will avoid skin flaps. Not that you have those...
