Ways Back to School is Like Weight Loss

  • Carefree days are over.
  • Getting into new clothes soon.
  • People noticing you’ve changed a lot since they last saw you.
  • Kind of scary and exciting at the same time.
  • Causes big change in your routine.
  • It’s important to learn subtraction.
  • You know the weeks to come are gonna bring plenty of tests.
  • You’re just not sure where all the time went.
  • It’s easier to get started if you have a plan.
  • This year, you know it’s going to be harder than last year.
  • Success comes when you do all your work and assignments.
  • Chance to make new friends.
  • Endless new possibilities.
  • Hate that you have to get up to the same old thing every day.
  • It’ll be better if you get organized.
  • It’s a small comfort to know lots of others are going through same thing.

  1. Great list! We started school last week - maybe I will start losing weight again now since "carefree days are over".

  2. I definitely agree that it is a comfort to know that others are going through the same thing. Sometimes weightloss efforts can feel like they isolate you in almost every way. It helps to know that I'm not alone.

  3. I always loved it when my son went back to school...does that make me a bad mommy? Can I send him now, even though he graduated? Better yet, can I go to school instead of work?

    Great list :D

  6. Cute and accurate on every one of those items--specially the one where you'll do better if you plan. Something Ive been slacking on as of late!
Jack O'Shit? I like it!...or maybe you're italian--Jack Oglvie Shitarelli? (Have to account for that O!)

  9. Both hilarious and apt. Stopping by your blog always adds a bright spark to my day.

I'll add "It gets tougher as you get older."

  10. How about, "Don't pee your pants on the first day?" OK, that's why I don't make lists like you do.

  11. How about "Nothing makes sense to you until someone relates the content to real life."

You never think you really HAVE to lose weight until your health takes a turn for the worse.

  12. So true, so true. This is why I'm dragging my feet getting our homeschool year mapped out--I don't want to give up those carefree days! Plus, I want the health stuff to continue to stay on the front burner in my mind, and that's impossible when homeschooling, because that has to stay on the front burner. Good thing there are usually two front burners.

  13. So true! I especially liked "Hate that you have to get up to the same old thing every day". The first few weeks the novelty kicks in, but then, oy vey!

  14. this is great, i never thought of any of it in that way. I miss back to school, its been years for me and I don't have little ones yet. But its all worth it in the end for sure, the healthier you are the better for you and everyone around you!

  16. that's so true- about it working out better if there is a plan.
Mind you Jack- was it John Lennon who said: life is what happens to you when you are making plans. That is my experience but I make them all the same....

  22. Man I just had so many flashbacks.

For me, I have to add - "Even if they aren't, you still think the other people are making fun of you!"

I still think that the people working out around me are thinking of how pudgy I am!

Kinda like girls cant let their girlfriends go to the bathroom without them because you're afraid they'll talk about you while they are in there!
