Feeling Groovy

Weekly weigh-in: 198.5
Loss: -0.3
Total loss: 93.0 lbs.
Emotion: On a roll

Am I in a rut?

Every day I eat basically the same breakfast.

Just about every day I eat the same mid-morning snack at the same time.

Every day I eat basically the same lunch.

Six days out of every week, I drag myself to the gym and get some sort of a workout on.

Every afternoon, I eat a sensible snack at the same time of day.

Every day I take my vitamins.

Every day I drink enough water to put out an apartment fire.

Every day I sacrifice a hamster to Viduus, the god who separates the soul and body after death.

Every day I try to make at least one completely ridiculous statement.

Every day I try to spend a little time throwing comments to some of the blogs I follow.

Every night, I spend a little time trying to write something clever or kooky to entertain the folks who drop by this space.

Every week I step on that scale and make sure I’m still in the ball game.

You may say that I’m in a rut.

Me? I say I’m in a groove.

  1. Actualy, statisctics show that fit people tend to be creatures of habit, so i'd say you're in the groove too!
Maybe you could list a typical days food plan for us voyers[SP?] to gawk at :o)

  2. I think your groove sounds great! I saw an "expert" on TV recently actually recommending the same meals most days as helpful to dieting success. Hmmm. Personally, I think ruts are good, with an occasional twist thrown in for variety. Until the rut gets boring and I start on a new one.

  4. Definitely a groove. I think it's the hamster sacrifice that makes the difference!

  5. I need SO MUCH MORE rut in my life. Ruts feel like rules, and, lord knows, I hate rules. Congrats on the groove!

  9. You're not going to start talking or singing to lampposts, are you?

"...ain't you got no rhymes for me?"

  10. If it works stick with it!

I do something similar to be honest - I have about 7 day long meal plans memorised that if I stick to I know exactly what I'm eating. I do change them from time to time but I'm a creature of habit too :)

Been following your blog for a while - great progress!

  11. some days i feel like my predictable, same-thing-everyday routine has shoved me way down into a rut.... but then, like you, i snap myself out of it and realize that it's a positive - a nice, comfortable groove :)

  12. I have found that I seem to crave certain foods. I'll get on a kick that makes me crave yogurt for breakfast everyday for weeks, then it will change to oatmeal. Before, I think I ate so much of the wrong stuff that I did not allow my body to let me know what it needed. Now, my body feels like it wants to move if I haven't done cardio in a couple days, it craves nuts if I am not eating enough protein.

My body and I are in this place of zen now, and without the hamster sacrifices. :)

  13. Well, that solves the mystery of the missing hamsters at least. Congrats on the loss, and I think groove is right!

  14. Indeed you are :) And and very good groove it is!

  15. Jack, anywhere I can find what you eat on a daily basis? I think consistency helps me at this point.

  16. You are groovin! :) I hear that music! :)

  17. Dude, are you ever going to stop losing weight?! Wow!

Now I know your secret: hamster sacrifice. My daughter has been asking for a hamster. I might just get her one now. It won't last long. Must appease the gods.

  18. Sounds like you've found the right groove to me. :)

  19. Me too! I was thinking about making something different for my breakfast this morning but I find that thinking too much makes me hungrier. I'm going to stick with the usual. I'll probably get bored of it eventually but for now it's working!

    Groove on!

  21. Both ruts and grooves are routines; a groove is a routine you feel good about.

  22. In general I eat the same thing every workday because I throw the same thing in my lunch box. I had been thinking I was in a rut too...but your description is better.

But doesn't sacrificing a hamster EVERY DAY get a bit expensive? They're $10 a pop! Are they cheaper by the dozen?

  23. You're definitely in a groove. Keep it up!

  24. What an excellent groove to be in!

  25. Jack it's working for you. Instead of a rut, think of it as an equilibrium.

  26. I find it easy to have the same breakfast, lunch and snacks as well. On the weekends I mix it up a bit, but hey like others have said before me. If it is working for you, keep at it!

    Congratulations on the loss!

  27. Sweet! We all have/had bad habits that never varied every day. These habits are ones I can totally get behind.

  28. Maybe if you're stuck it's time to change up your meal plans or exercise routine. But your still losing so maybe all is well!

  29. Thanks for the humor. I'm new to the blogging weight loss game, and at first wasn't sure about all the song lyrics, but they are really growing on me. And the humor helps in the up and down wl game.

  30. Jack, you are doing great! I will say though that is you change it up a bit in terms of a different food at breakfast, lunch, snack etc. & vary a bit in that way, you may see some more changes in the measurements or scale. Not that you are not doing great!!! YOU ARE! But the bod does get used to things. I learned this later in life & try to make use of it. I changed my exercise program earlier but the food was where I learned the change thing a bit later. I am not saying craziness but I just a have a few basics that I can change up. When I have too many choices, it becomes problematic for me. :-) I do try to vary it though. But again, do what works for you!

OMG your humor never ceases to surprise me! Wanna sacrifice a few kitties too? I have some I could donate...

  32. LOL about the hamster.

On my good days (which fortunately happen better than bad days now)...I'm right there with you. It I try to change it up TOO much.....I get off balance. I have some "favorite" meals that I do tend to eat an awful lot of the time...but, since I really like them....I see no problem with it. And, they typically involve lots of veggies, lots of colors, lots of protein....so they are healthy and nourishing. I don't do 6 days at the gym....I only get in 3-4....but....I think 6 days would do me good and help me be a bit "more" in the groove. I've been thinking on that one lately.

Your groove is definitely a groovy one. It is not a rut.....it is a groove.....you know the difference. If it ever feels like a rut...then feel free to shake it up a bit. But, until then.....ramble on my groovy friend!

  33. Well, there was a groove to get fat...now your in the groove to get skinny.
    lol.
    Great job jack.
I have one of three breakfasts I eat.
I have one of three lunches I eat and then dinner is meat and a vegatable.
    We are creatures of habit.
The one habit I am no longer in...
    the drive through habit.
    hallelujah.

  34. Love it. I need to find a groove. A healthy one, that is. At least now I've got an awesome song stuck in my head!

    ReplyDelete
  35. As long as it's a great groove, then it is all good.

    ReplyDelete
  36. sometimes its all in the wording! and groove sounds way better than rut!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sound like a good groove to me, It's only a rut if you are bored by it or want to quit because of it, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I think we need more detail about the hamster-sacrifice aspect. I suspect that's what I've been doing wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Nothing wrong with a rut (or a groove) that is working for you!

I need lunch ideas. I could eat oatmeal or scrambled eggs every day and be perfectly happy, but I have a lot of trouble with lunch (unless it's leftovers).

    ReplyDelete
  40. I need to get to *apartment fire* water drinking status.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Your comments make a difference!
    Keep it rolling...

  42. That is one groovy rut you got goin Jack!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hi Jack. I want to be in that groove!

    Bearfriend xx

  44. The Groove is a great place to be. At that point everything is on auto pilot and it's smooth sailing!

    ReplyDelete
  45. The difference between a Rut and a Groove is very small. I wrote a post about this a couple weeks ago and I have to say, the Groove feels GOOD!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think it sounds wonderful. ;) Never heard of Viduus though...
