A Little More of Me to Love
Weekly weigh-in: 202.7
Loss: +0.5
Total loss: 88.8 lbs.
Emotion: Nogged up
Nog Nog
Who’s there?
Wayne
Wayne who?
Wayne sucked this week. I gained half a pound!
A friend gave us a bottle of real whole cream eggnog blended with rum, brandy and whiskey. Had a couple of shots of it on Christmas Eve, then treated myself to a liberal dose in my Christmas morning coffee… and then again in a second cup (I’ve given up everyday java, so this was really a special treat).
That wasn’t my only run-in with the holidays last week, but it was probably the most decadent.
So my assault on Onederland will have to wait at least one more week.
I did have one telling moment this week that really drove this accomplishment home for me. I was trying to help me 10-year-old daughter Pisa find something in the bathroom when–on a lark–I scooped her up and stepped on the scale while still carrying her.
Our combined weight?
292.
That’s a half-pound more than I weighed eight-and-a-half months ago.
I’ve lost a 5th grader.
Couple more holiday events (including a big New Year’s Eve party), and then it’s time to buckle down and finish what I started.
Here’s to a safe, happy and healthy new year to us all!
I have to say this: if you're gonna spurge, make it on something good. like real egg nog. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE eggnog latte! And I've managed to avoid it so far this year...
ReplyDeleteWell done on 'losing' a 5th grader and only gaining half a pound this week! :o)
I am hoping I can regroup before my Wed weigh in. I enjoyed the holidays myself.
ReplyDeleteOnederland is within sight!
You're doing it, Jack! You'll be there soon, way (weigh) to go!
ReplyDeleteActually only gaining .5 over the Christmas holidays is great!! And knowing you, you'll have it off by next week no problem :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen you leave this same comment on soooo many other blogs in the last week:
ReplyDeleteOnly gaining .5 pounds during the holiday season is actually a success.
It should apply to you as well, right? :)
And my husband keeps asking me to pick up some eggnog. I "accidentally" forget each time.
I once gained 21 lbs in a month from drinking egg nog and it didn't even have booze in it so it's on my no no list lol. But glad you got to enjoy some in moderation, sounds yummy. Looks like you came through Christmas week without much damage. Way to go on losing a 5th grader lol.
ReplyDeleteIf I didn't like it so damned much, I be campaigning to criminalize eggnog. Stuff is deadly, I tells ya!! Oh, try it with Amaretto. Oh. My. God.
ReplyDeleteA half a pound gain over the Holidays is pretty good considering all the yummy things out there! I was terrified but I did my first weigh-in the day after Christmas and it really wasn't as bad as I thought.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the loss of a 5th grader! Its so funny to put it in context like that!
I don't think you sucked at all! A half a pound is stellar for the holiday eatfest! Onederland awaits you!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, having a bit of a splurge over the holidays really does tend to be worth it :) And the loss of a whole 5th grader -- MOST excellent!!
ReplyDeleteYOU LOST A 5th grader!!!!!!!!!!! That is something to celebrate!!!! Yes, you enjoyed the eggnog but you know what you are doing, you know you will be back to your routine & such is life. We have times when we enjoy & then we just get back to business. The big prob arises of we don't get back to business & you will.
ReplyDeleteYou have done good!
I wouldn't even consider that a gain =P.
ReplyDeleteI say that you came away from Christmas a winner if its only a .5 gain! :) No worries Jack- ya know why? Cuz you understand it...shhh don't tell anyone the secret ok. :)
ReplyDeleteI have been reading your blog for the last 6 months and just want to say thanks. I put on .5 lbs this week and it was the cookies. Thank god they are gone.
ReplyDeleteI have refused to buy eggnog for me. It has been hard but I have walked right by it. Only a .5 gain. Maybe you should have done what my daughter does before she steps on the scale....does jumping jacks. I keep telling her it doesn't work that way but what can you do.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the teensy gain over the holidays and congratulations on losing a 5th grader!
ReplyDeleteI don't get the appeal of egg nog. The idea of pounding back raw egg makes me want to spew. However, only 1/2 lbs gain? Pretty fantastic!
ReplyDeleteNot bad, not bad at all. A holiday indulgence, but not so much that you've derailed. It will be easy enough to slide back to normal now.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome, in the big picture :)
ReplyDeleteKeep inspirin'!
HI Jack. I've never had egg nog, but this is why I won't buy Baileys ever again. It's just like drinking pure cream with a dash of whisky.
ReplyDelete1/2 lb will be gone in the blink of an eye. Nothing to worry about!
Bearfriend xx
I think that's a fair weight gain for the holiday!
ReplyDeleteha ha ha....you lost a 5th grader.
dude. When I lost 60 lbs...I had lost my sophie.
ReplyDeleteI think of that when I nearly get a hernia picking her up and putting her in bed. ridic.
I can't believe I used to carry all that weight.
We weren't lazy, we were rucking some weight.
I'm trying to come up with a witty "Smarter than a 5th Grader" reference and not coming up with one. Anyway, congrats on losing the equivalent of one. And truly, gaining half a pound this time of year is what I'd call a success.
ReplyDelete*Only* gaining half a pound this time of year is GREAT! That's something to celebrate, seriously!
ReplyDeleteI've lost a 5th grader...that is one hell of an NSV. and .5 poundage aint too bad for the after Christmas report. My after holiday sit-down with the scale god is still 2 days from now. fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteEgg nog is a killer on so many levels. Too bad it's so darn yummy! Hey, if you only gained a half a pound consider it a victory. You showed some major control over this holiday season if that was your only slip up!
ReplyDeleteAfter drinking the egg nog you probably couldn't read the scale well :)
ReplyDeleteYou have done amazingly well.
Happy New year.

I discovered eggnog this season (with booze) and I'm sooo super happy about it, despite the weight gain. ;)
ReplyDeleteA half pound? That is nothing! I'm sure it was worth it. (My only eggnog this holiday was in the form of a latte - can't be as damaging as the real thing, right?)
ReplyDeleteYour 5th grader weighs 2 lbs more than my 5th grader. I can't imagine losing that much! YAAAAAAYYY Jack!
Good luck with New Year's Eve. That will be a tough one for me, I think.
WOW! I lift my glass (of eggnog?) to you for losing a 5th grader! How absolutely sweet is that?
ReplyDeleteI went from T-day to Christmas and actually lost 2 kilos....hard to believe since there were several indulgences in that time frame. It feels good though.
Love your blog - especially when you go 'deep' on us. The humor is good too but you really reach to the core of things when you go deep and it certainly resonates with me. Thanks!
I consider that a holiday success, Jack! Happy holidays to you, too!
ReplyDeleteNow I'm going to get off my butt and work out. .5 is amazing, but on Eggnog? I'd rather eat See's candy. Must resist.
ReplyDeleteOh, you mean you're not perfect? You gained half a pound over the Christmas holiday? And here I thought you were such an inspiration. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think real eggnog is worth half a pound as long as it's not every week.
I'm so disappointed that you gained .5 pounds Jack! (totally kidding!)
ReplyDeleteYou will lose it before you know it and onederland still beckons strong and close!
So glad I don't like eggnog! One less thing to crave.
ReplyDeleteice cream and cookies on the other hand.....
Funny thing, I got a bottle of Eggnog as well (Some Evan Williams brand thing). Everyone at work said the stuff is good.
ReplyDeleteI poured it on the street like Ice Cube in "Boyz in Da Hood"
I have no comment that would be original, therefore I am just giving you two thumbs up!
ReplyDeleteEgg nog will do that to you every time! It's pure Evul I say!
ReplyDelete~Kellie
Hope you had a great Christmas!
ReplyDeleteDon't even sweat the 0.5 lbs.! It's the holidays and although I know you know that's not an excuse, it's better than what the average person does during these times... 15 - 20 lbs. So I call that a continued success!
Keep it up!
At least you had something delicious. =D
ReplyDelete-Denise
Me, I started Christmas morning with the good ol' champagne and orange juice combo. I swear, starting with alcohol is just a bad idea. Making the "right" choices never seems to quite happen!
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic! You should carry her around for a day just to remind yourself what it felt like!
ReplyDeleteI think a half lb gain over Christmas week after losing a 5th grader is not so bad. I bet you arrive in onederland very soon after the new year. :)
