The Story of Two Wolves

I don’t know if I’ve ever told this story, but when I started this blog back in the 70’s (or whenever it was), I really didn’t want to take the chance that anyone would know it was actually me blogging.

Why? Well, if they knew if was me, they might figure out that I was overweight.

I know… I give people too much credit.

Anyway, I decided to blog as a Native American named Two Wolves because I found this little tale very apt to my predicament:

An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life…

This is what he said to them:

“A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.

One wolf is evil — he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego.

The other is good—he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.”

They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The old Cherokee simply replied: “The one you feed”.

I still think it’s a nice message and oh-so-relevant to my current situation.

But in the end, I’m glad I decided to blog under my real name. ;)

If I had a time machine…

I could set it to blur past these rough first few weeks back on track, to the point where I’m seeing some success on the scale, starting to feel the difference in the way my clothes fit and starting to notice how much more energy I have.

I could rush past these l-o-n-g days of readjusting my attitude and rearranging my priorities. I’d blow by these days where I’m haunted by losing my “instant gratification” fix.

I could move right up to the point where I feel solidly in control and boldly facing my future.

Wait a minute…

If I had a time machine, maybe I should just go back in time and tell myself to lay off the chips and beer.

I'm glad we got that worked out...

It’s not a scale…

It’s a land mine.

You make your way oh-so carefully, trying your best not to step on it because you know what happens the moment you do.

EVERYTHING BLOWS UP!

Your delusions and self-doubts.

BLOWN UP!

Your ability to ignore the consequences of your actions.

KA-BLEEWIE!

I avoided my scale for months, but it finally caught up with me. I stepped on it and…

BOOOOOOM!

Expect to see a lot more of me on here.

After all,  now I know where I stand.
